How to Wear Red this Winter

Feminine, strong, regal! You cannot miss to notice a woman in red. Isn’t it? It takes some major chutzpah to wear a turbo charged color from head to toe, because red is one attention-grabbing colour. So how then, should you actually wear red this winter?
Although I strongly believe that there is a gap that lies between runway fashion and street fashion, but yes there is definitely an overlap between the two. Talking about runway fashion, autumn/winter fashion weeks gave us an idea of what we will see on the fashion streets this winter. Designers brought many political statements to the runways. Voluminous silhouettes in power red, the season’s hottest color, with touches of pink made the strongest impact! Much like lipstick, there’s a red to suit everyone, whether you’re more burgundy (go for plush velvets) or pillar box (grab a scene-stealing suit).

If you are confused on what to wear with red outfits and really want the naysayers to agape in amazement with their jaws touching the ground the next time you flaunt red, then you will quite certainly find solace in these style tips on how to wear red –

1) Red and Black never go wrong

This post on how to wear red is definitely incomplete without mentioning about the classic black and red combination. This is one combination which will definitely spoil you for choices – from formal wear to casual wear to a date night, this black and red combination is a sure shot winner. Wear red evening dress with a black jacket or coat. And the other way round too is a win-win situation – pair up your red overcoat with a black dress.

2) Playing safe is justifiable, but that just makes you predictable

If you want to hit the ground running and come out all bold at work or other semi-formal events, what’s the harm in having red all over? But how to wear red pants and still be brave enough to add more red? Well, try pairing them with a matching red blazer and add a neutral coloured top or turtle neck.

3) Mix n match red with monotone prints

I will call this my go to hack if you are wanting to go low with red. Be it polka prints (preferably on a white base) or pinstripes, it would be the simplest way to stand apart from the crowd. You can add a pair of heels to spice up the simple look. You can also get a lot of ideas to style your red this winter, from my previous blog post on monochrome prints and gingham prints.

4) Denim is never a bad idea

This combination with red pants is surely going to wow you. Bring out your chambray shirt and simply wear it over your red pants. You could either accessorize it with oversize clutches or drape a scarf. Also an oversized denim jacket with a flashy red outfit is a great way to go this winter. You can check out here how I styled an oversized denim jacket.

5) Keeping it Casual

Want to try your hand at the trend but not one for dressing up? No problem – just paint your streetwear red. Relaxed trousers and oversized knits are the most comfortable autumn attire, and in recent seasons have evolved into workwear (praise be). Team with your best heels to sharpen the look, or keep it cool with box-fresh sneaks at the weekend.

6) Less is more

If you’re feeling less daring, a bold red boot or shoe is a subtler way to dip a toe into the trend. No matter if you’re looking to stand out, make a statement of solidarity, or add some color to your life, the point is there’s something red for whatever kind of woman you want to be!

7) Considering its strong tone, red works well with many colours

Add splashes of the tone to your every day outfits of greys, blacks and tans. Or try a head to toe look with darker, wine-toned red accessories. Also personally I love colour blocking red with emarald green. Wanna try?

Pro tip: Red and pink were largely seen on the runways this year, so do mix and match these queens in your winter dressing.
